Crowns and bridges are fixed dental prostheses, that are cemented on teeth or dental implants.
When placed on teeth, they require the natural tooth to be ground down to form an abutment tooth.
They are usually made of metal and porcelain or just porcelain and they can correct the shape and colour of your natural teeth and replace missing teeth.

What are dental crowns?
Crowns are small restorations that are placed on a tooth after it has been prepared in all dimensions.
They are used on both anterior and posterior teeth and are indicated when a tooth has significant loss of tooth structure.

I don't want to have my tooth ground down for a crown. Is there an alternative?
If your tooth already has an old crown, we can only replace it with a new one.
If your tooth is mostly intact and is in the front of your mouth, we can correct the colour or shape with a porcelain veneer.
If it is in the back of the mouth and there are the right indications, we can make an onlay.

What are dental bridges?
Bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth.
They are supported by the teeth next to the gap and require the teeth that support them to be reduced in size to make room for them.
-
What determines the longevity of crowns over time?
Their durability over time depends on the correct preparation of the tooth, their fitting to the tooth and the quality of manufacturing .
To achieve all this, very careful work of the dentist, detailed impression of the tooth and proper technical support of the dental laboratory are required.
At the same time, longevity also depends on the oral hygiene you practice.
Oral hygiene is more demanding with bridges.

What is a Maryland bridge?
Maryland bridges are used in the front area of the mouth, to replace a missing tooth.
They serve:
- as a temporary solution before dental implants;
- in young patients who are waiting for adulthood to replace missing teeth;
- in patients with periodontal disease who have lost a front tooth and have no bone to support a dental implant.
They are metal or ceramic bridges with “wings” that are bonded to the palatal side of the supporting teeth and do not require any preparation of your natural teeth.

Is there anything new about the crowns made today?
In recent years we have been using digital impressions for the construction of crowns and bridges.
This enables us to produce highly accurate work.
At the same time, the modern strong ceramic materials that we have at our disposal, provide better aesthetic results in the prosthesis we deliver.

How can I avoid bridges?
75% of bridges stay in the mouth for about 10 years.
They usually fail because one or more teeth have been destroyed.
This is why dental implants have become increasingly popular in recent years as an alternative to tooth loss.
